Rogersville: Tempie "Tippy" Belle Hammonds Roten, age 68 of Rogersville, passed away Friday, July 16, 2010. She was surrounded by her family after fighting a courageous battle of cancer for 16months. She was a member of Van Hill Freewill Baptist Church. Mrs. Roten was a housewife and care giver to many of her family and friends. She was preceded in death by a son, Tim Roten; parents, James Thomas and Lora Bare Hammonds; sisters, Pearl Parsons and Georgia Rhea Hammonds; brothers, John D. Hammonds, Robert Hammonds and J. B. Hammonds; brothers-in-law, Fred Hensley and Woody Roten.

Survivors include her loving husband of 52 years, Jimmy D. Roten of the home; one son, Joey Roten and wife, Jody of Rogersville; sisters, Marie Meredith and husband, Tom of Mt. Carmel; Shelby Roten of Millers Creek, NC and Mary Ann Hensley of Rogersville; brother, Tommy Hammonds and wife, Glenda of Rogersville; five grandchildren, Josie Marie Roten "My Baby", Jennifer Hensley, Stephanie Morgan, Rebecca Johnson, Stephen Justice and; many special nieces and nephews and her special family at Van Hill Freewill Baptist Church.

Calling hours will be 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Monday, July 19, 2010 at Broome Funeral Home, Rogersville and other times at her residence, 120 Hammond Rd. Rogersville and Joey and Jody Roten, 200 Birdie Dr., Rogersville.

Funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, July 20, 2010 Van Hill Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Pete Smith and Rev. Rex Miller officiating. Interment will follow in Hawkins County Memorial Gardens.

The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the funeral service.
