Helen Rhea Hord Testerman

Rogersville:  Helen Rhea Hord Testerman, age 88 of Rogersville, was born January 11, 1929 in Church Hill, Tennessee and passed away Monday, September 25, 2017 at NHC Healthcare, Kingsport.  She graduated from Dobyns Bennett High School in 1946 and attended Mary Baldwin College.  Mrs. Testerman graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1951 with a degree in chemistry.  Prior to her marriage to Edward Ross Testerman in 1953, she worked in Washington, D.C. at the U.S. Patent Office.  A longtime resident of Rogersville, Tennessee, she was a devoted member and elder of the Rogersville Presbyterian Church and was instrumental in organizing its kindergarten in 1959.  She was also very active in the Women of the Church and Sunday School.  Mrs. Testerman had a wonderful group of close friends.  Prior to her death she was a resident at Baysmont Retirement Community in Kingsport.  She thoroughly enjoyed her time there and her many new friends.  Mrs. Testerman was preceded in death by her husband of sixty three years, Edward Ross Testerman, Sr.; daughter, Mary Margaret Testerman DuVoisin; infant daughter, Helen Testerman; parents, Eldridge and Mary Newland Hord;  sister, Mary Alice (Tippy) Backer; brother, Eldridge Hord, Jr.

She is survived by her son, Dr. Edward Ross Testerman, Jr. and wife, Jane of Staunton, VA; two grandsons, Edward Ross Testerman, III and wife, Railey of Charlottesville, VA, John Mills Testerman and fiancee`, Stella Gardner of Raleigh, North Carolina; great-grandchildren, Claiborne Rodes Testerman and Edward Ross Testerman, IV of Charlottesville, Virginia; sister-in-law, Carolyn H. Testerman; special lifelong friends, Alice Wright Hale and Shirley Price; special friend, Karen Brooks all of Rogersville; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation hours will be 12:00 Noon to 1:30 P.M., Saturday, September 30, 2017 at Rogersville Presbyterian Church.

Funeral service will be conducted 1:30 P.M., Saturday, September 30, 2017 at Rogersville Presbyterian Church with Rev. Rodney Norris officiating.  Burial will follow in McKinney Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Rogersville Presbyterian Church, 309 W. Kyle St., Rogersville, TN 37857
