Rogersville: James L. "J.L." Hill went to be with his Lord and Savior, Saturday, April 13, at NHC Health Care in Kingsport. He told his wife, Joe Ann, "Sugar, I love you with all my heart". He then said, "Jesus, please take me Home", before succumbing to his health issues. James Hill was the son of Ben and Elizabeth Hill, born in Scott County, VA, then moved and worked on the family farm in the Beech Creek community of Hawkins County. James wasn't able to read, but made a successful living selling real estate for 49 years. He retired from BASF after 30 years of service. He was a hard worker, and enjoyed working and providing for his family. Most of all, he loved God, his family, and little children. He was preceded in death by son, Thomas Shannon Hill, great granddaughter, Emersyn Hickman; sisters, Fledda Smith and Jewel Scalf; brothers, Clarence Hill and daughter-in-law, Karen Hill.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Joe Ann Jennings Hill; two sons: Sherman Hill and wife, Teresa, of Bulls Gap and Shaw Hill and wife, Lisa, of Rogersville; four sisters: Sarah Jane Morelock , Blanch Light, both of Rogersville, Marie Lowery of Kingsport and Rexie Purkey of Bean Station; three brothers: Bill Hill of Mooresburg, Paul Hill and wife, Goldie, of Baileyton and Ronald Hill of Rogersville; four grandchildren: Bryan Hill, Jeremy Hill, Amber Hickman and husband, Spencer, and Austin Abrams; great grandchildren, Dylan Hill, Madison Hill, Emily Hill, Ashley Cate Hill and Brylee Hill; step grandchildren: Jessica Martini, Heather Carter; step great grandchildren: Haley Carter, Jesslyn Carter, Logan Carter, Mason Martini, Zachary Martini, Kendall Martini and Christina Hill; special niece: Regina Wolfe; numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation hours will be 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, April 16, 2019 at Broome Funeral Home, Rogersville.
Funeral service will be conducted at 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, April 16, 2019 in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Odell Davidson officiating. Graveside service will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at McKinney Cemetery.
