BARBARA M. JOHNSON

Barbara Mae Johnson, age 80, of Surgoinsville, passed away Monday, June 29, 2026, after a brief illness.  She was a faithful caregiver for most of her life. She was preceded in death by her husband James "Dee" Johnson, son Stevie Dockery, grandson Jared Dockery, parents, Marshall and Audrey Ward Sexton, sisters, Kathy and Patricia Begley, Emma Gibson, and brothers, Alonzo Sexton, David Sexton and Shaylor Sexton.

Survivors include daughters, Sharon  McMurray and husband Tim of Mt. Carmel, Michelle Lawson of Abington, Va., son Gregory Allen Dockery of Ft.. Blackmore, VA., 8 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, sisters, Lorraine Darnell of Ft. Blackmore, Va., Shirley Gibson of Blackstone, Va., Elsie Baker of Dungannon, Va., brothers, Richard (Ethel) Sexton, Homer (Bonnie) Sexton and Elmer Sexton all of Dungannon, Va., numerous nieces and nephews.  A special appreciation to the ICU staff of Johnson City Medical Center and Specialty Select staff at Bristol Regional Medical Center.

Graveside service will be 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at Hawkins County Memorial Gardens with Rev. Jimmy Darnell officiating.  For those that wish to attend the graveside service please meet at the funeral home by 1:30 p.m.
