CARL "RICK" SCALF

Carl "Rick" Scalf, a devoted follower of Christ, a proud veteran, and a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on July 5, 2026, at the age of 79.

Born on April 7, 1947, Rick lived a life defined by his unwavering faith, integrity, and deep love for his family. He honorably served his country in the United States Army, a reflection of his dedication and character. Rick walked closely with the Lord, and his commitment to his Christian faith was the cornerstone of everything he did. His legacy of grace, kindness, and spiritual leadership will continue to inspire those who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Mary McGhee Scalf and mother and father-in-law Sam and Oralee Justice.

Rick was the cherished husband of Bernice Scalf, with whom he shared 56 beautiful years of marriage, building a life centered on love, faith, and mutual devotion.
He was a proud and loving father to his three daughters, who carry forward his values: Cindy Shepherd, Cristy Cook (Fredrick), and Amy Pickering. He is also survived by his dear siblings: his sisters, Joan Nichols, Pat Davis, and Linda Cabbage ( Bob),  brother, Dale Scalf, and sister-in-law, Patricia Justice, brother-in-law Howard Justice, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. 

Rick's joy was multiplied through generations. He was the adored grandfather of Josh Scalf (Jessyca), Alex Markham ( Abby), Chelsea Irish (Nick), Devin Wallen, Letha Chandler (and her partner, Coby Hayes), Emmy Shepherd, Justin Cook (Billie), Andrew Cook (Katlyn). He was further blessed as a loving great-grandfather to Brody and Elaina, Bristol and Reed , Addy M., Mason P., Sydney, Addy B., Mason C., Austin, Rhett, Samuel, and Abigail.

While his family grieves this profound loss, they find comfort in the assurance that Rick is now resting in the arms of Jesus, having heard the words, "Well done, good and faithful servant."

Family will receive friends 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 8, 2026, in the chapel of Broome Funeral Home.

Graveside service will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, July 9, 2026, at McKinney Cemetery with Rev. Billy Ray Courtney officiating. Military Honors provided by Hawkins County Color Guard and Tennessee Army National Guard.  For those that wish to attend the graveside service please meet at the funeral home by 9:15 a.m. to go in procession.
