Carl "Smiley" Gregory, age 61, of Surgoinsville, Tennessee, flew away to his heavenly home Sunday, June 7, 2026. He was born in Baltimore, Maryland on June 10, 1964, to Carroll and Ressie Gregory. He left this earthly world peacefully at home surrounded by family. Smiley was employed for over 20 years by Joseph Rogers VFW Post 9543 serving both in maintenance and janitorial duties. He also was a heavy equipment operator for Jerry Price and Gearld Seals and several other contractors in the area. Smiley was also a former employee of Hawkins County Gas Company. In his younger years, while in Maryland, he worked at Willow Wood Farm in Marriottsville. Smiley loved watching the races and loved having a good time with his friends, family and enjoyed long drives in the countryside. There was never a dull moment when the old goat walked in the door! He was preceded in death by his parents Carroll and Ressie Brewer Gregory, paternal grandparents Cruis and Mollie Gregory, maternal grandparents Richard and Nettie Brewer, and nephew Bobby Burdette, Jr.
