Carolyn Harrill Testerman,96, passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2024, following a period of declining health.
Carolyn was born to Roy Reid and Carral Long Harrill on September 3, 1928, and grew up in Elizabethton, Tennessee. She attended Ward-Belmont College in Nashville before earning a degree at the University of North Carolina where she was a member of UNC’s first graduating class in journalism. She returned to Elizabethton and earned a teaching certificate from ETSU. Carolyn taught school before marrying Frank Testerman,Jr, a Rogersville businessman, in 1952 and moving to Rogersville where they lived until his death in March 1991. Carolyn was a devoted mother and Grandmom.
Carolyn was a member of Rogersville Presbyterian Church, where she was active in many facets of the church, including serving as an elder and Sunday School Superintendent. She served as a Sunday School teacher, in Women of the Church, and in Wednesday night children’s activities until her later years.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her sister, Phyllis Stancill Pruden, and her brother, Frank Harrill, as well as numerous lifelong friends.
Carolyn is survived by her son, John Frank Testerman, III, and wife, Carla of Kingsport; son, David Testerman and wife, Missy, of Rogersville. She had 7 grandchildren: John Doherty (Alda), Patrick Doherty, Mikelle Ward (Kris), Erin Mitra (Neil), John Frank Testerman, IV (Heather Richardson); Andrew Testerman, and Caroline Testerman. Carolyn also had 7 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, December 1, 2024, at McKinney Cemetery with Rev. Charlie Gibson officiating. Those that wish to attend the graveside service please meet at the cemetery at 1:45 p.m.
