Chalmer M. Jacob, age 91, passed away following a period of declining health on Thursday, December 12, 2024, at his Surgoinsville home, where he lived for over 60 years. He was born on December 13, 1932 in Chicago, but the family soon moved to the suburbs, settling in West Chicago. After graduating from high school, Mr. Jacob's mother wanted her son to go to college away from the "big" city of Chicago. After some research she found Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, TN. Mr. Jacob's time at LMU was interrupted by a two year stint in the United States Army. On his return to LMU he received his Bachelor's degree, and also, met his future wife, Jean. They settled in Surgoinsville, where Mr. Jacob taught math at Church Hill High School, Surgoinsville High School, then later at Volunteer High School, retiring after more than 25 years. During his teaching career he returned to school earning his Master of Education degree from ETSU. Outside of the classroom, Mr. Jacob enjoyed yard work, gardening, and small engine repair. Jean, his wife of 55 years, would often keep him busy with many of her clubs and meetings and homecoming events. Mr. Jacob was a proud alumni of LMU and enjoyed going to alumni meetings and homecoming events. He also enjoyed life events of his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Jean Jacob, son Jeffery Jacob, parents, Pablo and Ruth Jacob, brothers, Pablo, Keith, and Randall Jacob.
He is survived by his son Karl Jacob of Knoxville, grandchildren, Jordan (Madison) Jacob, Ethan Jacob, and Nolan Jacob, daughter-in-law Rena Jacob of Fayetteville, NC, sister-in-law Kay Jacob of Mountain View, California, and niece Susan (Eric) Sather of Palo Alto, California.
