Christine Venable, age 94, of Rogersville, passed away Thursday evening, May 8, 2025, at her residence surrounded by her three children. She was a wonderful mother. Christine showed true grit and strength her entire life. Being widowed at a young age, she worked hard to support her children. Although she saw tough times, she never showed her concerns. Christine gave her children the most wonderful childhoods imaginable, providing them, as well as many neighborhood children, an abundance of cherished memories. Having to represent a father figure as well as being an attentive Mother, Christine wore many hats. She always seemed to find a way to make things work. She experienced great pleasure in doing the things she loved. Christine loved gardening and reaping the many fruits of her labor. She was also a stickler for manicuring her lawn, and thoroughly enjoyed getting compliments on how neat she kept it. She could outwork those many years younger and always attributed her lengthy life to having done so. Her family will miss her beyond measure. Christine was preceded in death by her husband Clyde Venable, parents Roy and Bonnie Gonce Lawson, sister Juanita Elkins and brother Conley Lawson.
Survivors include her daughter Sherry Sutherland (Roger) of Kingsport, sons, Dale Venable (Diane) of Rogersville, and Gene Venable (Susan) of Mt. Carmel, five grandchildren, Brandy Venable, Allison Venable Beck (Brad), Tyler Venable, Elijah Sutherland, and Maddie Sutherland Collins (Jonathon), three great-grandchildren, Evan Goins, Brinley Beck, and Aubrey Beck, one niece and three nephews.
Graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 12, 2025, at Persia Community Cemetery with Rev. Tecky Hicks officiating.
