Donny "Maddog" Maddox, age 68, of Rogersville, went to be with the Lord and love of his life, Dora, unexpectedly Monday morning, December 15, 2025, peacefully in his little cabin home. He was a member of Price's Grove Missionary Baptist Church where he was saved at an early age and served as a deacon for several years. Donny retired as a truck driver/heavy equipment operator from Hawkins County Highway Dept. where he worked for 30 years. He also worked at Hawkins County Sheriff's Office for several years where he met some lifelong friends while working a job he truly loved. Donny started a life of service to his community in 1983 with Lakeview and Persia Fire Depts as he held many positions and later joined Hawkins County Emergency Response Hazmat Team as a lifetime member with 30 years of service. Donny was an avid outdoorsman and spent his free time hunting and fishing with his son Johnny and best buddy Mike Wilder. Donny was preceded in death by his loving wife Dora Hurd Maddox, parents, John Frank and Anniebelle Smith Maddox, brother-in-law Johnny Kite, and son-in-law Earl Taylor Jr.
Survivors include his son Johnny Maddox and wife Angel who he loved and thought of like his own, daughter Clesta Taylor, and stepson Chris Graybeal, all of Rogersville, grandchildren, Austin, Justin, Devin, and Autumn Hamblen, Mason, Sophia, and Isabella Maddox, Dakota Ward, Destiny Ward, Katie Regnier and Kaylee Graybeal, 8 great-grandchildren, sister Helen Kite, brother Carmel Maddox and wife Mary Ann, all of Rogersville, several nieces and nephews, a very special mother-in-law Scottie Brooks whom he loved dearly, the mother of his children Tonia Brooks Hilliker, and best friend since early childhood Mike Wilder (Judy).
Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, December 21, 2025, in the chapel of Broome Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be 7:00 p.m., Sunday, December 21, 2025, in the chapel with Rev. John Richards, Rev. Scott Bradley, and Hazmat Chief John Murnane officiating.
Graveside service will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 22, 2025, at Courtney Cemetery. For those who wish to attend the graveside service please meet at the funeral home by 10:00 a.m.
Pallbearers will be Hawkins County Emergency Response Hazmat Team.
Honorary Pallbearers will be his son, grandsons, Joey, Eddie, Ryan, Randy, Ezra, Izaiah, and Carmel Maddox, Jeff Kite, Mike Wilder, Ronnie "Buzzard" Helton, Tony Robinson, Wayne Clevinger, Cliff Evans, Ronnie Lawson and Tony Spitzer.
