Floyd H. Knowlton Jr, age 87, died Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at Ballad Health Hawkins County Memorial Hospital. He was born in Binghamton, N.Y., in 1937. He graduated from Binghamton University and Washington College of Law of American University and became a member of the Maryland Bar. He enjoyed a career as an insurance executive, attorney and arbitrator.
While working in Washington, DC, Floyd met and married Maggie Allen. They were married 65 years. His career took them to Hartford, CT., Toledo, OH., and London, England. In 2000, they made a successful retirement to Rogersville, TN. He was a member of Rogersville Presbyterian Church where he was an adult Sunday School teacher, elder, trustee and occasional Sunday service leader.
Floyd was preceded in death by his son David Knowlton, parents, Floyd H. Knowlton, Sr and Anne Knowlton, brother Thomas Knowlton, as well as several sisters and brothers-in-law in his wife's family.
He is survived by his devoted wife Maggie, daughter Myra Knowlton of Houston,Texas, daughter-in-law Janet Knowlton of Chicago, IL., and sister-in-law Sandra Knowlton of MA. He is also survived by adored grandchildren, Ashley Veatch Persons (Sean), Linda Jo Foody (Rick), John Knowlton, Timothy Knowlton (Corinne), Megan and Charles Knowlton, great grandsons Micah Foody, Wesley Persons, Lucas Persons and River Knowlton and great granddaughters Hadassah and Charis Foody.
A private burial will be at McKinney Cemetery.
Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 31, 2025, at Rogersville Presbyterian Church with Rev. Rodney Norris officiating. Family will receive friends immediately following the service in the Fellowship Hall and a light lunch will be served.
