GLADYS LIVESAY Obituary

Gladys D. Livesay, age 98, of Kyles Ford, left her beloved home in Hancock County for heaven’s bright shore on Tuesday, July 16, 2024.

Gladys was born December 22, 1925, to Rev. Lewis and Kate Davis. The early lessons from her childhood would stay with her all her days: to love God, to love family, friends and neighbors, to work hard and waste nothing; and to go to church, read your Bible and pray.

Gladys graduated Clinch High School in 1947, and later went to work at Eastman for approximately 10 years. In 1956 she married Charlie Livesay. They made their home in Kyles Ford and lived there the rest of their days. As a couple, they had a very positive influence on their family, friends, and community. Aunt Gladys and Uncle Charlie were always favorites with us children and left us with so many precious memories.

Gladys enjoyed being outside where she spent an enormous amount of time in the gardens and fields. She could do anything on the farm. Trucks, tractors and all the livestock were no stranger to her.  Gladys was quick to help her neighbors in any way she could, whether it was harvest time or someone was sick. Gladys could wear work clothes all week but dress like a lady on Sunday and attend services at Livesay’s Chapel Church where she served many years as a teacher and song leader.

Gladys was preceded in death by her husband Charlie Livesay, parents, Rev. Lewis and Kate Davis, seven brothers, Chester, Lester, Bert, Emory, Ted, Edsel, and an infant brother Davis, two sisters, Jean Lawson and Mary Linkous.

She is survived by one sister-in-law, Bennie Davis, a host of nieces and nephews, and many friends and neighbors.

Gladys’ family would like to extend a special thank you to Sneedville Medical Center, Amedysis Nurses, and Amedysis Hospice, and to all the special loved ones who were there to help, call, and check on her.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, July 19, 2024, at Broome Funeral Home in Rogersville. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 20, 2024, in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Ronald Davis officiating.

Interment will follow in Highland Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Lynn Davis, Clinton Davis, Tom Davis, Jerry Davis, Tim Linkous, and Doug Linkous.
