Gloria Rocio Haefele, age 83, of Kingsport, passed away peacefully, Sunday morning, May 12, 2024, at Holston Rehabilitation and Care Center after a period of declining health. Gloria was a graduate of East Tennessee University with a Bachelor degree in Spanish, English and Special Education and Furman University, having a Master's Degree in Spanish Literature. She served as an educator for 30 years in English, Spanish, and Special Education in numerous counties in Tennessee, as well as North Carolina, South Carolina, and Washington D.C. To those that knew her best, Gloria was known for her humorous, loving personality, and her "quick-wittedness." She was preceded in death by her parents Osvaldo and Ana Guzman Gonzalez.
Survivors include daughters, Iva Haynes Rice and husband Jim of Kingsport, Ana Gilliam and husband Shannon Warren of Fuquay-Varina, NC, sons, Paul Bachman of Kingsport, E. Ray Gilliam and wife Teresa, all of Kingsport, brother, Helmut Gonzalez of Swainsboro, NC, grandchildren, Ginger Kniss, Jarrod Bachman, Eric Gilliam, Sarah Foster, Sydney and Madison Gilliam, 6 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later time.
