Rogersville: Helen Hawthorne Testerman, age 95, of Rogersville, passed away Saturday, September 30, 2023, at Asbury Place of Steadman Hill, Kingsport after a period of declining health. She was an active member of Rogersville First Baptist Church, serving as Sunday School teacher for many years. Mrs. Helen was awarded Miss Tennessee in 1950. She was preceded in death by her husband George M. "Bud" Testerman, parents John Cleveland and Ada Hyder Hawthorne, brother Charles Edward Hawthorne, and niece Suzanne Hawthorne Arp.
She is survived by her son George Milum Testerman, Jr. M.D., daughter Cecile Testerman both of Kingsport, sister-in-law Ruth Hawthorne of Surgoinsville, nieces, Jayne Smith and husband Gary of Surgoinsville, great nieces, Morgan and Katianne Smith of Surgoinsville, and special friend Karen Mustain. A special thank you to the staff of Asbury Place at Steadman Hill, Amedisys Hospice, and special caregivers.
Visitation will be 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., Friday, October 6, 2023 in Broome Funeral Home Chapel.
Funeral service will be 3:00 p.m., Friday, October 6, 2023 in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Trey Meek officiating.
Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery.
