Joanne DeSantis Fleischer, age 68, of Surgoinsville, passed away Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at Ascension Saint Thomas Hospital West in Nashville. Joanne was born in Manhattan, NY on October 9, 1955. Joanne attended Minisink Valley High School where she was color guard captain, a member of the leadership team and drama club, an officer of the Student Council, and played soccer. After graduating high school in 1973, Joanne attended Orange County Community College. She worked 20 plus years at Sears and was a substitute teacher at Pine Bush Elementary and Middle Schools. Joanne also worked at Walmart for 20 years where her co-workers were her second family. She married John Dana Fleischer on September 25, 1977. Joanne was the light of the room wherever she went, bold in everything that she did, and could always make you laugh. She was the best shoulder to cry on and loved with her whole heart. She was preceded in death by her parents Nicholas and Josephine Piro DeSantis and brother Anthony DeSantis, as well as many special pets.
Survivors include her husband John (Dana) Fleischer, son Tim Fleischer and wife Megan of Rogersville, grandchildren, Brandon Lawrence, Kaidence Fleischer, Austyn Lawrence, Emmalee Oriani, Gianna Fleischer, and Cameron Lawrence; sisters, Annette Vertalino of Minneapolis, MN, Rosemary McNeil and husband James of Greeneville, NY, best friend of 65 years, Dawn Williams, and her pets which she spoiled and loved so much.
A Celebration of Life service will be announced at a later date.
