Joe Garland Price, 86, passed away Sunday, February 9, 2025 in Rogersville, TN. He was born in Knoxville, TN, but lived several places in East TN, Virginia and Sun Valley, ID. Joe graduated from Polk County High School in 1956, the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 1960 and The University of Tennessee, Memphis in 1965 with a degree in Pharmacy.
In 1976 he, along with his sister-in-law, Elizabeth Smith, opened the U-Save Drug Center in Rogersville. He loved his patients. His favorite antic was to wear a Christmas tie the 25th day of every month of the year. Joe also loved the Hawkins County community. He was elected to the Hawkins County School Board serving 10 years. Notably, he was Chairman of the School Board during the planning and building of Cherokee and Volunteer high schools.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Clellen Pern Price, Faye Flake Kendall Price, brother Harold Jennings Price, son John Garland Price and his wife of more than 60 years, Earline Robertson Price.
He is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Faye “Betsy” Fields (Allen) of Winston-Salem, NC and son James Robertson “Robbie” Price (Elizabeth) of Rogersville and grandchildren Kendall Fields, Carter Fields, Madison Price and Emily Price. He also leaves behind his faithful companions, Cupcake and Smokey.
A faithful member of Rogersville Presbyterian Church, he served over many years as a Deacon, Elder, Trustee and Scholarship Committee Chair. He loved singing in the choir and teaching Sunday School.
Joe was an avid sports fan and supporter of high school and college sports. He could be heard in the stands at Warrior’s, Chief’s and UT Vols’ games cheering his team and voicing his opinion of the officiating. He and Earline loved to travel. Before the last expansion, he and Earline had attended an away UT football game at all of the SEC stadiums. They also often attended bowl games to support the team. However, their travel wasn’t limited to sports. Joe and Earline visited numerous countries. When at home, you could often find him in his green Mustang at McDonald Hills Golf Course with his favorite foursome. We rejoice in this final trip and his everlasting reunion with Earline and John.
