It is with heavy hearts that the family of John Dana Fleischer of Surgoinsville,TN, announces his passing at home on March 17, 2025, after a brief battle with cancer. Dana was born in Newburgh, NY, on February 26, 1954, to the late John and Bernice (Wright) Fleischer.
Dana, formerly from Washingtonville and Bloomingburg, NY, graduated from Washingtonville Central High School in 1972 and began working at Star Expansion Company, Mountainville, NY, in various roles, for the next 30 years. After Star closed, he worked at Spence Engineering, Walden, NY, before moving to Surgoinsville, TN, in 2006, where he worked at Barrette Outdoor Living until his retirement in 2018.
Dana was very active all his life and in his younger days rode dirt bikes, snowmobiles, and motorcycles, played in softball leagues and bowling leagues. He was always
multi-talented and could build and fix anything. He enjoyed spending time with his beloved family and friends, working in his large vegetable garden, and listening to his massive collection of 78 rpm vinyl records. Most of all, he was a very avid fisherman and spent his NY fishing days with his life-long friends Richie Fiorito and Danny Brown.
Dana was preceded in death by his parents and by his beloved wife of 46 years, Joanne DeSantis Fleischer. He is survived by his sons, Timothy (Megan) Fleischer of
Rogersville, TN, and John James (Brenda) of Norwich, CT; grandchildren, Kaidence Fleischer, Gianna Fleischer, Emmalee Oriani, Jeremy Fleischer, Madeline Fleischer,
Austyn Lawrence, Cameron Lawrence and Brandon (Nakole) Lawrence; great-grandchildren Aaven and Alec Lawrence. He is also survived by his sister
Debbie Fleischer Matthews of Washingtonville, NY, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Rest in peace Dana. You will be forever in our hearts and missed so very much.
