Michael T. Spears, age 70, of Church Hill, passed away Saturday, March 29, 2025, at Ballad Health Hospice House following a period of declining health. He was Veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the 82nd Airborne Division of Vietnam. Michael was an avid golfer, catfisherman, and an extremely talented painter. He sketched and painted hundreds of paintings gifting them to his friends and family. Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Andrew and Benita Elliot Spears, Sr and brother Charles Andrew Spears, Jr.
Survivors include his daughters, Courtney Coffey and husband Brandon of Lexington, Va., Shanna Major of Kingsport, Jessica Phipps of Fluvanna, Va., Melanie Fetterhoff of Bristol, son Michael Fetterhoff and fiance Lauren DeJoy of Colorado, 6 grandchildren, sisters, Linda Thompson and Shirley May both of Rogersville, brothers, Roy Spears and Joe Spears both of Rogersville and Richard Spears of Fredricksburg, Va., several nieces and nephews. A special thank you to longtime family friend and caregiver Rita Spangler.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
