Mary Elizabeth Cook of Rogersville, passed away Friday, February 21, 2025, at the age of 91. Mary brought laughter and joy to this world and will be deeply missed by many.
Mary was born on September 10, 1933, the second child of Brownlow and Pearl Davis Stapleton. She resided in Rogersville her entire life.
She was preceded in death by parents, husband Dee Cook, sister Ruth Cody and husband Paul, brothers, Jim Stapleton and wife Carolyn and Bob Stapleton, and father of her children, Earl Bailey.
Mary is survived by her daughter Reba Bailey, son Melville Bailey and wife Diane, brother Thomas Stapleton, chosen daughter at heart, Beth Holt, granddaughter Amy Bailey McMillian and husband Daniel, and great-grandchildren, Emilyn, Everett, and Ian, sister-in-law Faye Stapleton, and several cherished nieces and nephews. Special friends to Mary include Ruth Couch, Missy and Brian Drinnon, who were always so good to her and who she considered family. Mrs. Mary could always count on her nephew and neighbor Tim Manis to help with anything she needed. She loved him dearly.
Mary was a member of Spires Chapel Baptist Church and her faith strengthened her throughout life. Mary worked hard her whole life and spent many years as a machine operator at TRW. She will be remembered for her wonderful butterscotch pies, her laughter and love of telling stories about her past and those she loved. Mary loved canning and gardening and taking care of family and friends. She was a devoted mother to Melville and Reba, teaching them the values she lived during her life. Mary was so proud of their accomplishments in their communities.
The family wishes to extend appreciation to the dedicated and caring staff of Hawkins County Memorial Hospital Emergency Room Department.
The family will receive friends 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday, February 24, 2025, in Broome Funeral Home Chapel.
Funeral service will be at 7:00 p.m., Monday, February 24, 2025, in the chapel with Rev. John North officiating.
Graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 25, 2025, in Big Creek Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105 or stjude.org/memorial.
Serving as pallbearers are Wayne Stapleton, Scott Stapleton, Craig Stapleton, Donnie Cody, Tim Manis, and Landon Stapleton. Honorary pallbearers include David Cody, Brian Drinnon, and Tim Cody.
